Convert legacy Bengali fonts to Unicode — and back
Bijoy, Avro, Boishakhi and SomewhereIn text breaks everywhere modern software expects Unicode: Word, Google Docs, email, web forms, databases. Pick a direction, paste, done. Nothing is uploaded — conversion runs entirely in this page.

Almost everyone needs one of two things: getting legacy text out so it is readable in modern software, or getting Unicode text in to a legacy form that will not accept anything else.
Why the Avro confusion is so common
Search for “Avro to Unicode” and you will find thousands of hits. Almost all of them are solving a problem that does not exist, because Avro is an input method, not a text encoding. Type on an Avro keyboard and the output is already Unicode — there is nothing left to convert.
When an Avro user sees garbled text, the underlying bytes are practically always
Bijoy, left over from an old system, or they have genuinely been handed
Bijoy data. That is what the Bijoy to Unicode converter
is for. If your text looks like plain English letters rather than broken Bengali
(bv, Avwg), that is a different problem — see below.
Which legacy encoding is my text?
| What you see | What it is | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Boxes, ? marks, or mojibake | Legacy bytes shown in a Unicode font | Convert from legacy |
Short Latin string (bvAbw, Avwg) | Bijoy legacy text | Bijoy → Unicode |
| Readable Bengali, but wrong letters or wrong order | Usually Boishakhi or SomewhereIn | Try the other legacy converter |
| Plain English letters that mean nothing | Raw Avro keystrokes, or untranslated | Not an encoding problem |
Everything runs locally
Conversion is plain JavaScript in this page. Your text is never uploaded, which means unreleased drafts, client documents and anything confidential are safe to paste — and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
